University of Alabama Alcohol violations at UA continue to rise-10/25/11 Student article-compares UA’s enforcement rates with lower reported violations at Auburn and Florida and includes:  “The modern techniques of the advertising industry may be stoking consumption of alcohol to higher levels, but the culture of binge drinking seems to be timeless.”  ““I will say that a college culture saturated with alcohol is nothing new,” Dorr said. “There were plenty of concerns in the 1920s about Alabama student drinking, and I don’t really think it will ever entirely change.””

Recent Alcohol-Related Tragedies involving University of Alabama Students

Charles Edward "Tre" Jones III, 20, April 5, 2012, University of Alabama More Information Tre Jones lost his life when he drowned during a riverboat party hosted by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.   Tre’s cause of death was determined to be drowning and acute alcohol intoxication, and a toxicology report showed his blood alcohol content to be .133.
Natalie Baine, 20, January 11, 2013, University of Alabama More Information Natalie lost her life when the truck in which she was riding crashed while returning to campus after a football bowl game.  Natalie’s family filed a lawsuit claiming the student driver was in no condition to drive since he was exhausted after spending several days in Miami where they spent their nights clubbing and drinking on South Beach and barely slept at all.
