Recent Alcohol-Related Tragedies involving San Diego State University Students

Austin Bice, February 26, 2011, San Diego State University on a semester abroad in Madrid More Information Austin lost his life after leaving a night club in Madrid.  A doorman suggested Austin rest a while before going in because he looked unwell.  A friend told reporters that Austin and others had been drinking at an apartment before going out to the club.  After leaving his friends at the club, Austin drowned in a nearby river.
Shirley Jennifer Poliakoff, May 6, 2007, San Diego State University                       More Information She came home late Saturday night with friends after attending several social events.  Authorities confirmed that the cause of Shirley Jennifer death was acute cocaine and alcohol intoxication.
Douglas R. DeWitt, September 26, 2004, San Diego State University                       More Information DeWitt died during Pledge Week for fraternities and sororities. University officials say the Greek parties were policed to keep them alcohol-free.
