Western Washington University WWU has launched two campaigns to address student drinking, drug use-10/2/11 Perceptions vs reality--“A freshman, estimated that about 70 percent of her peers were drinking heavily at least once a week. Other freshmen interviewed last week had wildly varying guesses, from 30 percent to 80 percent.”
Western Washington University Fewer alcohol citations, more arrests around campus, security report shows-10/7/11 “The number of students being cited for on-campus use of drugs and alcohol dropped significantly between 2009 and 2010 at Western Washington University, according to the annual Security and Fire Safety Report released Oct. 4.   Ninety-eight fewer disciplinary referrals for liquor law violations and 50 fewer drug-related violations were issued in 2010 than in 2009.  The number of arrests for liquor law violations, however, increased from 41 to 96 between 2009 and 2010. These numbers include on-campus violations as well those issued on adjacent public property.”
Western Washington University A year later, memories of Dwight remain-10/4/11 Student view--- Although Student N “said he and his friends have not drastically changed their behavior at parties after Clark’s death. But he said he never lets his friends walk alone, especially at night.”

Recent Alcohol-Related Tragedies involving Western Washington University Students

Dwight Clark, 18, September 25, 2010, Western Washington University How and why? Dwight was last seen leaving a party at 2 a.m. on a Sunday morning.  After two weeks, his body was in Bellingham Bay.  Toxicology tests found Dwight’s blood-alcohol to be .13 along with the presence of marijuana.
