Alcohol-Related Student Deaths-Spring 2007

Presented below is an unfortunate tabulation of alcohol related campus deaths reported in the media for the spring 2007 semester.  For every deceased student listed, at least three other college students are reported to have died.  However since the tragedy's connection to alcohol was unclear in media reports, those are not yet included.

The information supplied for each victim is a tabulation of media reports. The circumstances and causes of the tragedies are summarized within the listing with more details contained in the associated link.

University's page Wade S. Steffey January 13, 2007, Purdue University More Information  Wade was accidentally electrocuted after he somehow got inside the room, which should have been locked. He was last seen around 12:30 a.m. Jan. 13 outside Owen Hall where he had left his coat before going to a nearby fraternity party. Nine weeks later, his body was found about 50 yards away in a semi-underground electrical vault at Owen Hall.  Steffey was intoxicated at the time of his death, based on a blood-alcohol content given in a report from the coroner's office.  Accident associated with campus drinking

University's page Anthony "Tony" Gerald Villella, February 10, 2007, Towson University  More Information  15 to 20 people partied at Villella's apartment on Oberlin Court in the Colony at Kenilworth. A friend saw Villella drink approximately 10 beers and four shots.  29 students were transported to the hospital for alcohol-related incidents in 2006.   Karl Fazli; 21, February 14, 2007, Wittenberg University More Information According to police reports, Fazli's housemate found him unresponsive at 10 a.m. at a Park Place address where the two had attended a party the night before. University's page Derek Crowl, March 16, 2007, Bloomsburg University, visiting friend at Boston University More Information A four-alarm fire at 49 St. Mary's St. was started by a burning piece of charcoal that ignited the rear wooden porch of the third-floor off-campus apartment.  Derek had arrived in Boston on Thursday evening to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with his friends, officials said.
