Nicholas Garza,  February 5, 2008, Middlebury College   How and why? Nick vanished and drowned in February and was found three months later.  Nick used a fake ID to buy alcohol Feb. 3, and the transaction was captured on surveillance cameras, Middlebury Police  said. Nick brought the drinks to share with five friends during a dorm-room gathering two nights later, the last time he was seen, Accident- drinking associated
Joshua Threet, January 5, 2008, St. Cloud State University How and why? After a night of partying and drinking games, Brian W. Threet was found dead on Saturday in the bedroom of his St. Cloud apartment.  Threet started at St. Cloud State in the fall of 2005 as a pre-business major and after a semester off, had registered for classes this spring. Tony Lee Miller, 22, January 13, 2008, South Central College How and why?  Tony's death has been ruled accidental due to acute alcohol poisoning. His blood-alcohol concentration  was .435. Delawar
Michael Szwed, January 26, 2008, Florida Southern College How and why? Initial autopsy results showed Michael died of a lacerated spleen likely from a "hard fall" received at a Slip 'n Slide fraternity event. Michael had been out drinking Friday night, until 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning. And the next morning, around 7 a.m., Szwed began drinking again for the bid day event, reports said.His roommate said Michael had been "very intoxicated and that he had been throwing up at Florida Southern College during bid day" Accident- drinking associated
Isaac Perrault., February 15, 2008, University of Tulsa How and why? An acquaintance of Perrault's reported to campus security that Perrault had become unresponsive. Paramedics could not revive him. Police say witnesses told them Isaac Perrault was drinking and injected himself with illegal drugs on Friday night. Alcohol and Drug Poisoning
Robert Atherton, 22, February 24, 2008, Michigan State University How and why? Police reported that Robert was drinking with friends in an apartment in the Cedar Village area early Saturday when he became aggressive.  They say the group he was with restrained him for several minutes, then realized he had become motionless and wasn't breathing. The group then called 911 Accident- drinking associated
Kurt Baker, 22, February 24, 2008, Mesa College How and why? Friends found Kurt unconscious on his bed and called 911 when they were unable to wake him up. They told the emergency dispatcher that he appeared not to be breathing. The friends tried to revive Baker with CPR. When paramedics arrived, they took over. Baker was taken to Alvarado Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  According to a student, "he had been drinking a little bit, but not excessively." Alcohol and Drug Poisoning
Robert M. Hurt, 21, March 9, 2008, Bradley University How and why? 21-year-old Bradley University student Robert Hurt died after police say his friend 19-year-old Brandon Gish pushed him into the street when the two were playing around.  Police say the accident was alcohol related.  Hurt's preliminary blood-alcohol content was 0.197 percent. Dustin Michael Bauer, March 12, 2008, St. Mary's University How and why? Dustin fell 10 feet off a stairwell and landed on the floor of a residence hall while celebrating a college basketball victory. Alcohol may have been a factor, a university spokeswoman said.  Accident- drinking associated
April Englund, 21. April 5, 2008, University of Wisconsin-Stout How and why? A smoky house fire near a University of Wisconsin campus killed three students who never made it out of the rooms where they were sleeping early Saturday, even though neighbors said they heard alarms.  As part of the investigation, the police conducted multiple interviews in an attempt to re-create what took place before the fire. They learned was that all three had been consuming alcoholic beverages. Accident- drinking associated
Scott A. Hams, 23, April 5, 2008, University of Wisconsin-Stout How and why? A smoky house fire near a University of Wisconsin campus killed three students who never made it out of the rooms where they were sleeping early Saturday, even though neighbors said they heard alarms.  As part of the investigation, the police conducted multiple interviews in an attempt to re-create what took place before the fire. Amanda Jean Rief, 20, April 5, 2008, University of Wisconsin-Stout How and why? Kaitlyn Bryant, 20,  April 6, 2008, Pearl River Community College (University of Southern Mississippi student arrested for DUI) How and why? Kailtin’s vehicle collided head-on early Sunday with a vehicle driven by Shelby Brown, 20, a Southern Mississippi student . Brown was intoxiated at the time. Accident- drinking associated
Connie Blount, 18, April 13, 2008, University of Kentucky How and why? Connie died in a hit-and-run accident crossed against the traffic signal and stopped in the street for unknown reasons when she was crossing South Broadway.  The police accident report says that Connie Blount had been drinking that night before she was struck. Kirsten Ross, 20, April 15, 2008, California State University How and why? Kirsten driver of a car that crashed into a fire truck in downtown Sacramento.  Kristen had a blood-alcohol content of .06 percent, according to police investigators. Alcohol was the primary factor in a car crash between a firetruck and a passenger car that left two women dead according to investigators. Accident- drinking associated
Brian Jason Hardin, 27, April 16, 2008, University of Kentucky How and why? Brian  was walking near the intersection of Woodland Avenue and Maxwell Street when he fell about 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday after a night out with friends at a nearby bar.. Hardin was taken to University of Kentucky Hospital, where he died 10 hours later from a traumatic brain injury. Accident- drinking associated
William Jacobson, 19, April 28, 2008, Ithaca College How and why? William was last seen between 3:30–4:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 27, in the backyard of a home  in the City of Ithaca. William had attended a party at that address and was last seen walking  back to his room in on campus.  New York State Police divers found William's body in a pond less than a 10th of a mile from the college's public safety building. William Kiel Bobbitt, May 1, 2008, California University of Pennsylvania How and why? William Kwas drunk when he arrived at the friend's apartment about 1 a.m. Thursday looking for a place to stay.  Those who lived in the apartment discovered William dead when they woke up less than seven hours later.  Alcohol Poisoning
Willie Poon, 22, May 3, 2008, Binghamton University How and why? Willie died and another student was charged with vehicular manslaughter following a Friday night accident . They were driving back to BU from Ithaca, where Cornell University had hosted Slope Day -- an end-of-classes celebration featuring dancing, music and beer. Accident- drinking associated
Christopher Wootton, 21, May 3, 2008, University of California, Berkeley How and why? Christopher was stabbed to death early Saturday during a drunken melee in the parking lot of a sorority house not far from campus. Drinking associated assault 
Matthew S. Sunshine, 19, June 10, 2008, Northwestern University How and why? Matthew died of an accidental alcohol overdose had attended a drinking party at his dormitory. Alcohol Poisoning
Kevin MacDonald, 21, June 14, 2008, University of Washington How and why? Kevin tumbled from his third-floor fraternity bedroom last month and sustained fatal head injuries.  An officer concluded that MacDonald, a junior at the University of Washington, had been out drinking and could easily have slipped and fallen while climbing the ladder to his top bunk at Alpha Sigma Phi just before 4:30 a.m. Accident- drinking associated
Desiree Mesolella, 19, June 22, 2008, Adelphi University   How and why? Desiree was riding with her friend on Long Island, near campus.  The driver was arrested  and charged with second-degree manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated among other charges. Edward Trapasso, August 23, 2008, Loyola College How and why? Edward had friends over to his home to celebrate his graduation from Loyola College in Baltimore. Mount Pleasant police said he passed out from drinking beer and liquor, then friends put him to bed. Alcohol Poisoning
