Recent Alcohol-Related Student Deaths Media Reports: The information supplied for each victim is a tabulation of media reports. This likely contains more material than anyone wishes to read entirely, however an overview will soon reflect what seems to be a pattern. First, there is the report of the body, followed by sketches of the circumstances surrounding the death or deaths. Then comes the inevitable expression of concern by college administrators, centering on the campus memorial service. Soon thereafter comes the toxicology report, followed by either silence, or an expression of outrage by a parent. With the latter, what often follows is an reevaluation of college policies and other steps for change. However, unless the consequences are kept in the forefront, practices, including indifference, returns to normal until the next tragedy occurs. This sequence occurred in 2005 and again in 2007 at Paul Smith's College in upstate New York. However, as an outraged parent, I attempted to ensure that the college did not forget. Tragically, I was not sufficiently loud.
